REPORT FROM JERUSALEM

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Shalom ,

Greetings from Jerusalem.

Just a brief news update on what is happening with us in these last days.
I had written another letter on my personal computer but it is now being fixed. If they can repair it, it will take up to three more weeks.

I was in the UK in November preaching and had about 14 meetings. In the future, I hope to write about the trip. I plan to be in the UK from June 3rd June to the 21st..   Anyone who would like to invite me to speak can contact Dena. Her email is alders@dircon.co.uk  .

In December I was in the army guarding a prison full of Palestinian security prisoners. It was a great blessing. At another time, I will mention the many opportunities I had to witness.

Now back in Israel, I have been catching up. I have been spending a lot of time visiting the people who are members of our congregation, catching up with what is going on in their lives and finding out where they are in their walk with God.  It’s all part of the ministry.  So many pastors are concerned with numbers and not about the ‘condition’ of the sheep. It is a hard job with very few physical rewards but many spiritual blessings.

We had a couple who decided it was ok to go beyond the realms of courtship and enter into the realm of sexual intimacy without being married. It was a shock to me because I could not imagine this couple would behave in this way. At the same time I had recommended this sister to another congregation without knowing that serious sin had been committed.  Then the brother came to me and confessed his sin, and at the same time, the sister, also confessed. We then had a meeting between the two congregations about what to do.  The couple ended their relationship and separated. In the meeting, the brother said he will do what is right before the Lord and marry her. It was not an easy decision. They are now undergoing counseling with another pastor and trying to work out their differences and hope to be married in May. Please pray that they will learn to love each other and live to be examples to others through their married lives.  When we deal with people who have fallen into sin we have to approach them in humility because we all have the capability of falling into sin and even into grosser sin. We all hang on by the skin of out teeth by Gods grace.

Our tours continue every Friday. After the recent terrorist attack, there have been just a few coming to the Russian tours.

I also do a tour in English and have had opportunities to present the Lord Jesus to unbelievers.  It has also given me opportunities to encourage professing believers in the truth who attend. On one of the tours, while I was talking about atheism and saying that it is just a protest movement against God, a young lady said that’s how she used to be but now she knew that God is. Later in the conversation, she said she didn’t know which was the right way to go. Because there were so many religions to choose from, she was looking for a sign to show which one was right.  I told her we already have had a sign, the sign of the prophet Jonah and explained to her that there are not many choices, but one. (Many wrong choices but one right one )  All religions may be wrong but they all can’t be right. If you are driving 50 above the speed limit and you get caught you may say I was driving X, but the policeman says look at my laser gun. What will you say? The facts contradict you, the same with truth. Not many truths but one. The conversation with me ended there, later she got into more discussion with Jo brother who is working with us here. Sowing seeds.

Recently, Jo and his family came from South America to join us. They are at present “camping” out in our office until they sort their things out and are currently taking an intensive Hebrew language study program. Please remember them in prayer.

Slava, a brother who works with us, lost his mother last week and is now in Moldova for the burial.  Thank God she was a believer. She loved the Lord very much but lived a hard a life. I think she relied more on the Lord as a result of her circumstances. We remember her well as she was in Israel for several months last summer and had shared her testimony with us.

We have a pastor from a large church in NYC helping us for a few months. His name is Bill. So far he has been a great blessing. Please remember him in prayer as well.

We are hoping to acquire a new meeting place, which is much larger than our present facility, allowing us to expand our ministry. Another blessing from the Lord - within the next few weeks, we will be purchasing a new van which will be more economical to operate compared to the one we now have.

A number of people from Kiriat Gat are coming to the tours. We pick them up and take them home.

We have a youth meeting every Friday night which is going well. The young people are coming to the meetings with great enthusiasm.

Many of you have informed us that you pray for us everyday. Thanks for your prayers and support.

Thanks again and may God bless you!

Antony

Prayer Requests

"...in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us, with you also helping together by prayer for us, so that the gracious gift by many persons be the cause of thanksgiving through many for us..." (2Co 1:10-11)

Pray for the evangelism

  • We have distributed over thousand videos last  year and several hundred this year, now we are starting to follow up. We find people very open and many invite us into their homes.
  • Please pray that many doors will open, that God will open hearts, that there will a great openness to receive the good news and that there will be a great harvest of souls.
  • Our evangelistic Russian tape. We have duplicated it again, and it is called "Hear, O Israel". Pray that it will be effective . We also have three new Videos which we have purchased to help us in the follow up with the Jesus Video.
  • For the work of distributing invitations for bibles and the Jesus film. We do this on a regular basis and  we get very good responses .
  • Recently we handed out nearly 600 packs of literature at the end of concert organized by the Christian embassy. We go to the concert every year to evangelize. People ask us why and we say if they will not preach the gospel inside we will preach it outside. Pray that the literature will be read and that people will come to faith. We heard that the name of our Lord was not mentioned once.
  • That the Lord  will  keep us safe as we travel many Kilometres and distribute literature  .  Sometimes we are attacked by religious Jews when we are distributing literature. Thank God that He saves us, for we could always manage to escape from their threat providentially.
  • For the many new responses to the Jesus film.
  • For a new project with the Jesus film. We have started a new  project in a big city and so far it has been very successful.
  • For our summer evangelistic campaign and the volunteers who will help .
